In December 2009 the Chaschniky district court heard the criminal case against the fishermen from a fishing team of RUP “Chaschniky PMK “Meliovodhoz”.
The fishing team was monitored by the officers of the emergency response group of the State Inspectorate, because there was information that the fishermen were stealing fish from time to time. Such cases were detected earlier as well. The control of the fishing team was well planned as usual.
Two of the fishermen, when they went ashore, were taken with bags, filled with selected fish. As one of the accused explained to the associated judges, three fishermen led by a foreman had prepared to start fishing on Lykomolskoe Lake in the morning. Two fishermen didn’t appear, that is why the foreman asked two outside people, who worked as fishermen earlier, to help.
He promised to pay for their work with 5 kilograms of fish. The helpers were arrested not with 5 kilograms of fish, but with two bags of fish, total weight was more than 65 kilograms. One bag contained 17 kilograms of large eel, the other bag, which weight was 48 kilograms contained pike, roach, crucian carp, perch and tench. Inspectors also found 12 kilograms of fish in a motor boat and in a boat. Just compare: only 55 kilograms of fish were delivered to the warehouse, among the fish delivered there was no eel. According to the calculations of RUP “Chaschniky PMK “Meliovodhoz” the cost of stolen fish was more than 650 thousand roubles.
According to part 2 Article 211 of the Criminal Code (embezzlement or theft) two fishermen were sentenced to two years of imprisonment and to a 2.8 million roubles fine. The third fisherman was sentenced to two years of imprisonment and to a 2.4 million roubles fine. The sentence of all fishermen is delayed for one year, provided they don’t commit any other offence. They are also forbidden to occupy financially responsible positions for three years.
